Salute 2016 - Shiny's Bought

Apologies I have not posted all my Salute photos yet but I will try to do them in May but in the meantime I thought I should put up what I actually bought.

Essentially two traders got the bulk of my spend at Salute this year, and given I was quite restrained there is not too much too show for this year;

At Hasslefree Miniatures, I was specifically after two pre-release figures that look similar to the Ragnar and Lagertha - I hope they do some more of them soon;

Ulf of Gar - sadly this is a duplicate because I had forgotten I had bought it last year.

Henn of Gar - again, sadly this is a duplicate because I had forgotten I had bought it last year.

Haleth aka Lagertha of the Vikings TV series.

Ulfred aka Ragnar of the Vikings TV series.

Oscar, a modern post-apoc character

 At Bad Squidoo Games, having heard about the Dice Bag Lady on Meeples and Miniatures Podcast and her believable female miniatures approach, I had not planned on buying female vikings but given the two I had bought earlier in the day from Hasslefree, I liked the look of these figures.
Having looked at their website since, I've discovered they also do Shieldmaiden Berserkers as well....

Shieldmaiden Warriors - 4 figures.

Shieldmaiden Fighters - 4 figures.

Brynhildr - Shieldmaiden Champion.

Timeline Miniatures who I had not previously heard of had a 20mm ruined farm building in mdf for just £3 - once I put it together it may influence me to buy some more 20mm buildings from them.

Salute 2016 Part Two

The battle of Adrades looked fantastic.

The Winter War (Russians vs Finns) WW2 1940

I think this was the Rise of the Sassanids - battle against the Romans

Salute 2016 part one

My annual day off, also known as Salute had arrived, and six of us drove down from Norwich to ExCel in London - as is our aim we got there at 10.30am so effectively we avoid the 10am queues, and we walked straight in.

Unfortunately because I had an evening commitment (dinner ball) we knew we needed to leave no later than 2.30pm, so that meant I would need to be clear on what I wanted to buy and see, as four hours is quite short to cover everything at Salute.

It was an excellent event but it was a bit odd in that the theme for this year was steampunk but there was not a lot of steampunk on show.

Hasslefree is always my first port of call but unusually I had not done a pre-order.  Four figures were bought and I show them with my other purchases in another post.

The first table with a game that caught my eye was an American Civil War battle of Antietam

Forty Years War, which apparently is recreation of one their club (Whitehall Warlords) did back in 1976 for Salute!

A Kings of War mass battle run by Chesterfield Gaming Society.

Saga game done by Gripping Beast

Battle of Wilhelmstadt Seven Years War by Bill Gaskin and friends

Welcome to Mike's Little Men

I have been an active role-player and wargamer for a good 20 years, and the aim of this blog is to in part share my experiences but also act as a prompter for me to do some painting, make terrain etc.

Over the years I have built up a "lead" mountain of figures that never seem to get painted, individual figures, small skirmish units, warbands, and whole armies.......

I do not generally have the time luxury to paint every day but I hope to do at least one blog a week, showing my progress on my many projects.
